Auction sales, gallery exhibitions: art and craft are all the rage. We take a closer look at a market to watch.

Unique pieces or limited series by contemporary craftsmen (ceramists, glassmakers, cabinetmakers, etc.) are an opportunity to acquire original designer products at affordable prices.

[…] Halfway between art and craft, creations in ceramics, glass, lacquer and wood are on show at the Sinople gallery: “What makes us special is that we break down the barriers between disciplines: There is no dichotomy between art and craft”, says gallery owner Julien Strypsteen, who is commissioning limited editions of sculptural objects from Atelier Alba (Confluence, 2020, burr ash (Napoléon III stain), blackened pearwood, tempera gilding, solid beech, from €1,490 to €5,000) or turned and glazed black stoneware pieces by Ciprian Tocu (from €750 to €3,200). Some of the exhibitors at last April’s PAD Paris have understood this: the galleries Carpenters Workshop, Chahan, Gosserez, Maria Wettergren, Florian Daguet-Bresson and Raphaella Riboux-Seydoux. For them, contemporary art and craft are one and the same!
