Chronotope

In 2018, a fire devastated 15,000 hectares of forest in the south of Portugal (Algarve), leaving an inert, soot-black plant area still visible today.
Yves-Vincent Davroux captured a space which offers one of these visual windows in his "Noir Silence'' (Black SIlence) series. A continuum between space and time, it embodies the philological notion of the chronotope proposed by literature theorist Mikhaïl Bakhtine. Whether part of a fictional or non-fictional story, the chronotope covers integral elements of spatial and temporal description, like this emptiness and fullness which lay before the camera lens. These monochrome captures featuring gradually continuous shades of black and white twist, wrap up and drape reality, embodying the "bokeh mirage" eagerly-awaited by the artist, a conflagration of light.
