Invited by the French Embassy to discover some of the artistic crafts and emblematic cradles of production in China, SINOPLE imagines artistic exchanges for professionals in the sector with the French cultural services.

Éric-Sébastien Faure-Lagorce was a speaker at a 2015 conference in Beijing on arts and crafts and their current developments, and kept the conversation going between SINOPLE and the French Embassy in China.
After having been invited to stay in different provinces of the country to discover actors of creation and transmission in fine arts, crafts or design, SINOPLE was approached by the French Embassy in Beijing’s French cultural services to imagine an exchange and artistic cooperation program for artist-makers.

The artist to benefit from this program was Franco-Canadian ceramic artist Kristin McKirdy. From November to December 2019, she did a residency at the Taoxichuan International Art Center in Jingdezhen. This center dedicated to ceramics was built on a former industrial porcelain production site and has its own museum, exhibition space and school. Kristin McKirdy therefore had the opportunity to confront her ceramic practice with Chinese references and conduct her research with close-knit ties to local workshops.
