Nocturne #2

A "nocturne" is a classical musical form, based on a slow movement, combining pathetic expression, various melodic ornaments and an accelerated central part. In painting, a nocturne also represents a landscape illuminated by the moon and stars or, more generally, any subject evoking the night, the darkness. Freely inspired by this name for music and painting, these marble and hardstone inlays revisit antique bedside tables with circular inlays like stars in the ether. The richness of the details of the inlaid hard stones evokes the extreme complexity of the chemical and physical compositions of the celestial bodies that we know as well as those we do not yet know or will never know.
