Expertises
Inspired by the archetypal forms of ancient architecture, the "Confluence" series of sculptural objects takes a contemporary look at two historic skills of French cabinetmaking: Napoleon III staining and tempera gilding.
Each of these objects is composed of a base inspired by the lines of the pyramid at the top of which sits a sphere. A game of assembly left to the free interpretation of its owner, it only follows the principle of positioning the sphere in a gilded housing that gives the illusion of a celestial vault. While the pyramidal structure is stripped in a skilful and innovative application of the Second Empire style colour gradient, which reveals the subtle and enigmatic beauty of the ash burr used for its veneer.
