The functional art of Thibeau Scarcériaux
“Beyond the Mirror”, a solo exhibition by Thibeau Scarcériaux, one of the most promising Belgian designers of the moment, runs from 27 March to 13 July at the Galerie Sinople in the Marais district of Paris.
Blurring the boundaries between fine art and design, her work raises existential questions. Through glass, his favourite material, the artist expresses the reflections, transparency and light inherent in the material, while tackling strong societal themes such as racism and the gaze of others. Among these works, the War Chair, made of armoured glass, is particularly impressive. The chair looks as if it has been pierced by bullet holes, reminding us of the devastating consequences and tragedies of war, and evoking our feelings about the current context. The piece is also technically perfect and functional. In this way, his work becomes a medium, creating a dialogue between the work and the viewer.
