Each project is handmade on site, tailor-made with particular attention to detail. Working with paper, knowledge of the arts, techniques, the evolution of forms and historical structures all contribute to coherent, lasting creations. The fields of contemporary art, collections and archives, luxury goods, photography and publishing provide innovative projects and enrich the studio’s creativity.
Whether commissioned or not, the studio’s projects are driven by a respectful approach to materials and the artisanal work chain. The studio gives pride of place to paper by developing manual processing techniques and natural treatments.
Following a residency at Villa Kujoyama (Kyoto) in 2019, Laurel Parker Book is developing Folded by Hand: works and surfaces in washi (Japanese handmade paper) using traditional treatments. These objects – a blend of Japanese techniques and French know-how – are intended for interior design and decoration.
