Sachiko Morita

After training in sculpture in Tokyo, Sachiko Morita went on to study at the Beaux-Arts in Nantes. Before leaving her country, she photographed the objects she was to part with. To this day, she seems to want to counter the impermanence of things.
born in 1973, Japan
works and lives in Angers

Her special relationship with reality and time is probably what led her to photography and the study of plants, which hold a special place in her daily life. She took on a patient and experimental approach to develop a process which allows her to make silver prints on watercolor paper. This creative practice where the hand and the eye work in concert is also an extension of her work in the garden. She grows her herbarium with seeds, flowers, vegetables and fruits and with every season and each of her encounters, including a mushroom farmer who cultivates species commonly used in Japanese cuisine.
