Oseraie de l’île

After studying at the Beaux-Arts and training at the Fayl Billot Basketry School, Karen Gossart found in wickerwork the techniques and materials conducive to her desire to create original objects, which she is now developing alongside Corentin Laval, who learned the vernacular technique of the Bouyricou, a traditional basket from the Bergerac region in Périgord.

With basket makers from all over the world and under the name of Oseraie de l’île, their creations develop a new stylistic approach and renew this popular art and the use of wicker that they cultivate.

The latest creations of the basket-making duo break free from the traditional stages of basket construction – bottom, sides and rim – and renew this popular art and the use of wicker that they cultivate. They give shape to organic volumes from which neither the beginning nor the end can be distinguished and allow the object to be viewed from free angles and positions. Sometimes used with four hands, the techniques they use express a constant dialogue between the two artists, and reveal a material that reveals the simplest relationship between man and nature.
